T - Levels

 

T Levels are a new technical based qualification being introduced in September 2020 in England. The New T Level is equivalent to 3, A Levels and have been developed in collaboration with employers businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work. They will take 2 years to achieve and offer students a mixture of classroom learning and “on-the-job” training during an industry placement of at least 45 days. They will provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door into skilled employment, further study or a higher apprenticeship.

Students will be able to take a T Level in a number of subject areas, however the first 3 areas being launched in September 2020 include:

  • Digital production, design and development (digital industry)

  • Design, surveying and planning (construction industry)

  • Education (Education and Childcare Industry)

Structure of T Levels

T Levels include the following compulsory elements

  • A technical qualification that includes core theory, concepts and skills for an industry area, as well as specialist skills and knowledge for an occupation or career

  • An industry placement with an employer

  • A minimum standard in Maths and English

Placements

Every T Level will include an industry placement with an employer focused on developing the practical and technical skills required for that occupation. This will last a minimum of 45 days, but can last longer. Employers can offer placements weekly, in block or a combination of both.

MLW has over 20 years experience working with schools, colleges, young people and employers. The structure of T Levels lends itself to the MLW extended vocational programme.

 

T Levels launching in April 2021
